We're pleased as punch to present the Art in the Dark Philips Lighting Design Competition, powered by Philips Lighting with support from AUT.

The competition gives tertiary students from across New Zealand the opportunity to come up with a concept for an amazing light installation using Philips lighting products, including their energy efficient LED lights and light bulbs. You come up with something we love, and we’ll give you the products, platform and your name in lights.

The top 5 entrants + 1 wild-card voted for by the public will get to present their light installation concept to a panel of judges. The judges will decide the top 3 entrants – and these winners will have the opportunity to turn their dreams into reality by creating their stunning light installation to be on display at Art in the Dark 2012 for 20,000+ visitors to enjoy.

We challenge participants to be innovative with their design concepts. Ideas we hope to see include; light installations; interactive projects; spatial projects; landscape designs; video works; artworks; performances; kinetic structures and sculptures.

This competition is open to all tertiary and university students in New Zealand. Entries will be judged on imagination and/or artistic concept, environmental friendliness, innovative use of Philips energy-efficient light bulbs and production feasibility. The top 5 designs will receive an Art in the Dark certificate of merit. The top 3 designs will be announced as the competition winners, and will have the opportunity to create their artwork for Art in the Dark 2012.

Experts will work with the three winners to workshop and develop their designs for exhibition and Philips will provide the energy-efficient light bulbs and a range of related products for production.

All the best! We look forward to seeing all your fantastic ideas!
